Based on the NationalOral Health Survey of Preschool Children (NOHPS) in 2015, the prevalence is 71.3%. Despite strongevidence proved that four times application of Fluoride Varnish (FV) significantly prevented caries; veryfew toddlers completed the course, only one out of 142 toddlers (0.7%) completed the course during2021.KEY MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT:The indicator for improvement was the increase in percentage of toddlers who completed four times FVapplication. A standard of %u226513% was used based on the Plan of Action in Malaysia Oral HealthProgramme 2022-2023.PROCESS OF GATHERING INFORMATION:A quality improvement study is being conducted at KP Sikamat involving toddlers with high caries-risk.The study was started in 2022 in three phases; (i) verification study (December 2021 - January 2022),(ii) implementation of remedial measures; Cycle 1 (January- December 2022), Cycle 2 (February 2024 -January 2025) and (iii) re-evaluation post-intervention; Cycle 1 (January - February 2023), Cycle 2(February %u2013 March 2025).ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:Potential contributing factors include poor patient-parent compliance, dental fear, lack of follow-up fromdental officers and the inability to contact parents.STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE:Remedial measures during Cycle 1 (2022-2023) include creation of: (i) Excel Sheet Recall System (ii) FVForm to document toddler%u2019s FV visit, and (iii) parents were contacted via call or text to remind them ontoddler%u2019s follow-up appointments. Additional remedial measures during Cycle 2 involves (i) designing FVpocket cards consisting of information on FV, (ii) decorating surgery rooms, and (iii) devising steps topositively reinforce toddlers attending the clinic.EFFECT OF CHANGE:Evaluation of Cycle 1 showed an increase in percentage of toddlers who came for four times FVapplication; from 0.7% to 28.2%. The interventional measures are being continuously implemented andmonitored while undergoing Cycle 2.THE NEXT STEP:Our goal is to execute these interventional measures to all government dental clinics in Seremban.190 | Page
