For example, in a questionnaire, it is often
sufficient to state “Gender” and then to provide a
binary option which can either be (1) Male or (2)
Female (see Figure 3.1). It is commonly
understood that the respondent should answer by
choosing one of the two options. In a patient
registry, many questions can also be asked by
adopting the same approach to collect clinical
information such as type(s) of treatment offered,
treatment complication(s) and outcome variable(s)
(NHAM, 2015).
