Use of two negative words in a question can

          often  confuse  the  respondents,  who  may

          misinterpret the question. For example, “Why


          you don’t do nothing?” “Don’t” and “nothing”

          are  both  negative  words  which  can  confuse


          respondents  and  then  elicit  a  wrong  response

          from them.




       ●  To avoid long questions


          Long  questions  are  often  not  likely  to  be

          focused and specific and therefore they tend to


          explore  more  than  one  thing  at  a  time.  The

          respondents  may  lose  focus  when  they  try  to
