Target Population and Methodology
The NHMS 2024 targets residents aged 5 years and older, ensuring a comprehensive overview of the nutritional health of
the population. Living quarters (LQs) were randomly selected by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) based on
the most recent National Population and Housing Census. A total of 5,280 LQs, representing both urban and rural areas,
were chosen from 132 enumeration blocks across the country. Data collection activity for NHMS 2024 was successfully
carried out from July to September 2024, encompassing all states in Malaysia with a total of 6,703 respondents interviewed.
Government Engagement in NHMS 2024 Data Collection
The NHMS 2024 data collection activity attracted the attention of Malaysia’s Deputy Health Minister, YB Dato Lukanisman
bin Awang Sauni, who visited Miri, Sarawak on 8 September 2024 to oversee the process. His visit involved engaging with
selected residents from nearby areas. In his speech, he highlighted the significance of the survey and stated that findings
from the NHMS 2024 health census are crucial for the Ministry of Health in efforts to improve the health of Malaysians. He
extended his gratitude to the committee, data collection team and respondents for their strong support and cooperation
