Verification study revealed a decreasing trend of dental screening from 50.22%(2021) to 46.72% (2022) amongst antenatal patients in Johor Bahru district. The study aims to increasethe coverage rate of oral screening among antenatal patients in Johor Bahru.KEY MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT:The indicator was measured using the percentage of new antenatal patients undergone oral screening inJohor Bahru district. The standard is 73% based on consensus from the District Dental Officer asdocumented on the Johor Bahru District Plan of Action.PROCESS OF GATHERING INFORMATION:This is a quality improvement study using data obtained from PG207 report and GIRet system for theindicator. Questionnaires using convenience sampling involving 14 dental officers and 30 antenatalpatients together with pre-test and post-test involving 33 Maternal and Child Healthcare Workers(MCHW) were also done to identify the contributing factors.ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:Pre-remedial study revealed only 49.22% oral screening was conducted amongst antenatal patients. Thecauses included lack of dental officers (92.9%), lack of awareness amongst antenatal patients for oralscreening (37%), lack of referral from MCHW (71.4%) and non-conducive environment for dentalscreening (50%).STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE:The strategies comprised innovation of %u201cGiBunt%u201d; a dual-purpose application which streamlinesappointment via infoblast and provides oral health education, mobilisation of dental officers to Maternaland Child Health Clinic (MCHC) via centralised district schedule, focus group discussion with DistrictDental Officer to boost dental screening referral and provision of suitable workplace for dental screeningat MCHC.EFFECT OF CHANGE:The percentage increased from 50.71% (cycle 1) to 61.53% (cycle 2). Achievable Benefit Not Achievedwas improved from 22.9% to 11.47% by cycle 2. The coverage rate of oral screening among antenatalpatients in Johor Bahru was successfully increased after implementation of changes.THE NEXT STEP:This implementation will be continued throughout 2024 for all MCHC in Johor Bahru.57 | Page
