INTRODUCTION: Sanubari Optimal Health Program (Sanubari) is a wellness-based program
for house officers (HOs). We aim to explain the methodology and challenges of the
effectiveness of Sanubari among HOs study in Malaysia.
METHODOLOGY: The study implemented a quasi-experimental study design among HOs in
the public workforce for 6 to 12 weeks. Overall, the calculated sample size was 202, with 101
HOs in both the intervention and control groups. Five main indicators (depression, anxiety,
wellbeing, self-efficacy, and coping behaviours) were measured to determine the
effectiveness of Sanubari. The study was conducted using an online platform (Microsoft
               Team).
RESULT: The identified challenges range from low recruitment rates and poor internet
coverage to high drop-outs. The number of participants reduced at week 5 of intervention
from 96 to 88 HOs in the intervention group and 108 to 106 HOs in the control group. As it
was a virtual intervention, poor internet connection disrupted receiving complete
information from the intervention session. Attending sessions during working hours was a big
challenge for the HOs because some could not give full cooperation to the intervention
session. However, this problem was addressed by offering them similar sessions four days per
               week.
CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of the Sanubari intervention program was suitable to be
measured via experimental study design. The results of this study will be useful as a baseline
for future intervention among all house officers in managing mental health issues.
