INTRODUCTION: The worldwide prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and
adolescents has increased substantially. School is a good setting for implementing childhood
obesity interventions through nutrition education, supportive environment, and physical
activity promotion. This study aimed to discuss the development and validation of a school-
based health education intervention in reducing overweight among adolescents.
METHODS: The module was developed based on Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) as the
determinants are likely to determine behaviour change. Literature search was conducted on
SCT, dietary habits, physical activities and exercises in reducing weight, behaviour change
strategies, and strategies to improve self-efficacy, body image. Face and content validity were
performed to improve the relevance, acceptability and quality of the module. A pilot test was
               done to ensure its feasibility.
RESULTS: Overall, the implementation of the study was feasible. After being validated with a
panel of experts, the final version of the module was established. The final module consisted
of five sessions, to be delivered over ten weeks, with a two-week gap in between each session.
Each session lasted 60 to 90 minutes and took place during school co-curriculum hours. In this
module, self-monitoring, goal setting, reinforcement, health education, meal planning, social
support, problem-solving, assertive communication, and relapse prevention were employed
to promote healthy lifestyle, weight reduction and maintenance.
DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: The health education module for school-based intervention was
developed and validated. This intervention module would be implemented and assessed for
its effectiveness. If proven effective, the intervention module would be useful for
improvement in the school health programme.

INTRODUCTION: Nutrition disorders and compromised are common among children with
special needs. Due to their spasticity or uncooperative behaviours, evaluation and correct
measurement may be difficult. Weight estimations are required whenever standard
