In addition, it is o en much easier to validate an
existing questionnaire than to develop a completely new
questionnaire. This is because one of the most difficult
steps for conducting a study involving the development of
a new questionnaire is to establish a valid new set of
questions and then confirm that these questions have a
sufficient level of both reliability and validity. To do so, the
researchers must have strong background knowledge of
the subject matter in order to identify and select an
appropriate set of questions when developing a new
questionnaire from scratch. On the other hand, if the
researchers choose to merely validate the translated
version of an existing questionnaire, then the researchers
will merely have to translate all the questions from the
original questionnaire into a local (or native) language,
which will then be followed by the process of determining
both the reliability and validity of the translated
