It gives me great pleasure to warmly welcome all of you to the 22nd NIH Scientific Conference. This three-day
virtual conference is co-organised by the NIH and the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health
(APACPH-KL). This year marks the 22nd year of the NIH Scientific Conference since its inception in 1998. It is
held in conjunction with the NIH Research Month 2021.

As the COVID-19 pandemic wears on, it has disrupted various aspects of our lives including our healthcare
delivery system. However, the severity of the disruption has made us realize the importance of research and
evidence-based policy decision making. With various strategies in place, we’re slowly healing while at the same
time continuously ready to face any possibility. As such, it is timely and fitting to discuss the theme of our
conference, which is “Heal, Innovate, Change and Improve for a Healthy Nation”.

To address this theme, our fully virtual conference will bring together distinguished local and international
speakers as well as presenters from various disciplines. We believe this new way of scientific conference will
enable researchers, healthcare professionals, policy makers and academicians to interact and share ideas
particularly in the areas of public health, clinical, biomedical and other related fields. It is hoped that this first
ever virtual conference will achieve its objectives, that is to enhance the knowledge of all participants and
strengthen the collaboration among researchers and healthcare providers within Ministry of Health and
among other agencies.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the continued
support by the top management of the Ministry of Health, State Health Departments, Health Districts, and
other health-related stakeholders. My heartfelt thanks too, to the Directors of all NIH institutions and APACPH-
KL, our co-organiser, for their commitment and support in ensuring the success of this conference.

Finally, I would like to thank each of you for attending this conference and wishing you a memorable and
insightful event.
