It is with heartfelt gratitude and warmth that I welcome all participants to the 22nd NIH Scientific Conference
with the theme “Heal, Innovate, Change and Improve for a Healthy Nation”. Unlike the previous series of NIH
Scientific Meetings, this year’s event is going online and we are thankful that we are able to meet virtually in
this first-ever virtual conference.

The 22nd NIH Scientific Conference is held in conjunction with the NIH Research Month, and is co-organised
by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health, Kuala
Lumpur (APACPH-KL). This conference offers a great opportunity for researchers, healthcare professionals,
academicians and policy makers to interact and exchange viewpoints and research findings on various health
issues, risks and challenges in a pandemic.

We have now been living with COVID-19 for the past year and the pandemic is not over yet. NIH as a leading
health research organisation under the Ministry of Health Malaysia has a critical role in fighting this pandemic.
The NIH which composed of six research institutes is responsible in conducting various aspects of health
research including biomedical, clinical, public health, health systems and governance, and health behavioural
to support the ministry and the stakeholders in ensuring the wellbeing of the people and the nation. Towards
this, it is hoped that the 22nd NIH Scientific Conference, in no small way, act as a good platform for knowledge
sharing and networking in research and innovation. I am sure it will help us to be better equipped to handle
current and future challenges in moving towards a healthy nation.
This conference would not be successful without the dedication and commitment of the main organising
committee and the various working committees. My sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the Directors
of all NIH’s institutions, the chairpersons and members of the main and the working committees, for their
tireless efforts in ensuring the success of this virtual conference.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to thank all the participants and sponsors for their
involvement in the conference. May you have an enjoyable and meaningful conference.
