INTRODUCTION: Anaemia has a major health impact on pregnant women and foetus. This
study aimed to determine the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of pregnant women
regarding anaemia as well as their association with socio-demographic and antenatal
characteristics.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study involving consented pregnant women attending antenatal
clinic at Kampar Health Clinic was conducted from November 2020 to December 2021. The
sample size required was 385. Pregnant women who could not comprehend Malay language
were excluded. Pilot study was conducted to validate questionnaire. Statistical analysis used
is a descriptive statistics and ordinal logistic regression.
RESULTS: We recruited 418 subjects. Their median age was 30 (IQR: 8) years. Majority were
Malay (70.1%), had secondary education as highest education (76.3%), and primiparous
women (62.0%). Half of them (49.3%) consumed folic acid before current pregnancy. Majority
had high level of knowledge (69.4%) and practice (84.5%) on anaemia. Only 39.0% had high
level of attitude. Malays, tertiary education, more advanced gestation, folic acid consumption
and obtaining anaemia information from healthcare workers were associated with higher
knowledge level (p<0.05). Malays, tertiary education, more advanced gestation, folic acid
consumption and obtaining anaemia information from talk were associated with higher
attitude level (p<0.05). None was found to be significantly associated with practice level.
DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: Majority of the pregnant women attending Kampar Health Clinic
had high level of knowledge and practice on anaemia. Health education is important in
increasing the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women towards anaemia.

INTRODUCTION: High dietary sodium intake is linked to increased CVD risk and for older
person, imposes challenges in mortality, morbidity, and healthcare costs. There is limited data
on high sodium intake among older person especially in Malaysia. This study aims to
investigate factors that are associated with high sodium intake among adults over the age of
50.
METHODS: A cluster sampling approach was used, representing Malaysian adult aged >50
years in the population-based salt study (MyCoSS). The sodium intake was measured using
indirect ion-selective electrode (ISE) method in the 24hr urine collection. High sodium intake
was defined as above 2000mg/day. A logistic regression analysis was used to determine
factors that related to the high sodium intake.
