A verification study in 2022 reported that kindergarten children in Selisingachieved the lowest percentage which is 30.9% of dental case completion in Pasir Puteh district.KEY MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT:The indicator is the percentage of kindergarten children with dental case completion in Selising, wherebythe standard is %u226570% based on state target.PROCESS OF GATHERING INFORMATION:This study was conducted from 2022 to 2023. Five kindergartens with the lowest percentage of dentalcase completion in Selising were selected. Data was collected using the patients%u2019 dental records (LP 8),Kindergarten report data (PGPS 201), Modified scale of dental anxiety for kindergarten children andquestionnaires to parents and teachers who met the inclusion criteria.ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:Pre-remedial study showed 69% defaulted appointments due to unsystematic appointment schedules,81% with high dental anxiety among kindergarten children and 80% with no consent for dentaltreatment. Moreover, knowledge, attitude and practice among kindergarten parents and teachers weregenerally poor.STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE:A specific appointment book in the dental clinic was created to aim for dental case completion. DentalOfficer-In-Charge assigned for close monitoring. Besides, Innovative %u2018Child-Friendly%u2019 treatmentapproach was implemented. Other strategies include distributing consent forms to all parents andreturning on the same day during kindergarten registration day, organised Parents-Dentists Meeting Dayand counseling sessions with parents. Also, training of trainers was organised for kindergarten teachers.EFFECT OF CHANGE:The percentage of dental case completion increased from 31% to 73%. ABNA was reduced from 39%to 0%.THE NEXT STEP:The remedial actions have been expanded and implemented to all kindergartens in Pasir Puteh District.We plan to continue the remedial actions at the state level.46 | Page
