Delay in receiving dentures contributes to a substantial impact on thequality of life amongst elderly population. This study aims to increase the percentage of elderly patientsreceiving denture within eight (8) weeks.KEY MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT:The key indicator for improvement was gauged from the percentage of elderly patients receiving denturesin 8 weeks. Standard was set %u226550% based on Key Performance Indicators, Oral Health Program, Ministryof Health Malaysia, 2021.PROCESS OF GATHERING DATA AND INFORMATION:Retrospective study was conducted utilising data obtained from 58 dental treatment cards(L.P.8-2PIN.8/2019) and monthly individual report (PG207) from January to December 2020.Convenience sampling was used. Cross-sectional survey was conducted among dentists in KP Parit Rajain January 2021 to identify contributing factors.ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:Results showed 38.3% elderly patients received dentures in 8 weeks from pre-remedial study. Thecontributing factors include lack of knowledge in impression taking amongst new dental officers (28.6%),lack of skill in conducting bite registration amongst new dental officers (71.4%), complicated techniqueof bite registration process (85.7%), and lengthy procedure time (57.1%).STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE:The intervention measures include Burner Box innovation with quick guidelines for the bite registrationprocess aiming to facilitate this step. Workshop on denture construction was conducted to enhanceimpression taking and bite registration skills amongst new dental officers. Officers were assigned intoteams consisting of senior and new dental officers.EFFECTS OF CHANGE:A tremendous improvement in the percentage of elderly patients receiving dentures in 8 weeks from38.3% to 66.7% in 2021, 84.5% in 2022 and 82.4% in 2023 post remedial. ABNA was improved from11.7% to -16.7% in 2021, to -34.5% in 2022 and -32.4% in 2023.THE NEXT STEP:These intervention measures have expanded to all dental clinics in Batu Pahat district. This project will bereplicated to all districts in Johor. By 2025, the standard will be elevated to 80%.39 | Page
