IMR ANNUAL REPORT 2021 21

               Array Comparative Genomic Hybridisation (aCGH)

Chromosomal abnormalities are a major cause of congenital and
developmental abnormalities in human genetic diseases including
dysmorphic features, mental retardation, developmental delay and multiple
congenital anomalies. The use of chromosomal microarray analysis (aCGH)
could enable the detection of genomic alterations and/or submicroscopic
chromosomal imbalances at multiple loci which may aid in explaining the CENTRE (CaRC) CANCER RESEARCH
pathogenesis of the syndromic conditions and their direct consequences.
The outcome from aCGH findings will have significant implications in
genetic counselling and the quality of patient health care. In 2021, we
performed aCGH tests on 27 samples received from our medical and health
                care institutions.

Diagnostic Histopathology Tests at Stomatology Unit

The Stomatology Unit performs diagnostic histopathology for oral
and maxillofacial specimens. It is also a recognised training centre for
postgraduate students from University Malaya with Dr Ajura bt Abd Jalil and
Dr Hans Prakash a/l Sathasivam as Honorary Consultants in Oral Pathology
and Oral Medicine, appointed by the university.
