Untreated Hepatitis C can lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellularcarcinoma. The aim of the study is to increase the percentage of patients with Hepatitis C receivingtreatment in KK Larkin.KEY MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT:The indicator is the percentage of patients with Hepatitis C receiving treatment, measured out of the totalnumber of patients with Hepatitis C. The standard is %u226590% based on the National Strategic Plan forHepatitis 2019%u20132023.PROCESS OF GATHERINGS INFORMATION:A quality improvement study was conducted from June 2021 until May 2022 involving 52 Hepatitis Cpatients and 50 healthcare workers who met inclusion criteria. Data for the indicator was collected fromprevious medical records, drug diary and monthly census. Contributing factors were identified byquestionnaires. Implementation of remedial measures and re-evaluation were done concurrently involving13 patients from June 2022 until May 2023.ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:Pre-intervention, only 75% received treatment. The contributing factors include long waiting time(90.3%), disease-related stigma (64%), poor knowledge among staff (30%) and patients (25%), limitedawareness among staff (32%) and patients (25%), incomplete documentation (25%), inadequate defaultertracing (25%), under-screening Hepatitis C (16%) and under-trained staff (10%).STRATEGY FOR CHANGE:A dedicated clinic with an appointed Hepatitis C champion was established. Hepatitis C screening isstrengthened by using MYRisk Form and multi-agencies collaboration. %u2018MYHEPC HCW Toolkit%u2019 and%u2018MYHEPC Patient Toolkit%u2019 were developed to increase knowledge and awareness for healthcare workersand patients. Additionally, MyHepC Tracker was introduced to manage defaulters.EFFECTS OF CHANGE:The percentage of patients with Hepatitis C receiving treatment in KK Larkin increased from 75%(pre-intervention) to 92.3% (post-intervention). ABNA was improved from 15% to -2.3%.THE NEXT STEP:All interventions are continuously being practised in our clinic and MYRisk Form will be expanded toother primary healthcare settings in Johor Bahru.82 | Page
