Manual updates disrupt nursing schedules and reduce efficiency. Thisstudy aims to increase data quality of hospital census, by ensuring dataset meets criteria for qualitydimensions mainly accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, validity and uniqueness.KEY MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT:The percentage of high-quality hospital census is calculated by dividing the number of high-qualitycensuses by the total number of censuses. This study aims to increase data quality of hospital census to100% as per consensus in Mesyuarat Pengurusan Kualiti Bil 1/2021.PROCESS OF GATHERING INFORMATION:This pre- and post-interventional study was conducted across all wards. Data was collected among nursesusing a validated Online Staff Survey Google Form (n=225) to assess time spent, knowledge, and barriersto census quality. An audit (n=42) of MyWard was conducted to determine data quality. Conveniencesampling was used. A total of five cycles was conducted from 2021 to 2023.ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:The verification study revealed that only 14.3% of hospital census data met high-quality standards. ThePareto principle identified the key contributing factors as data not updated in time (48.2%), lack ofawareness (18.1%), and lack of human resources (15.5%).STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE:Key remedial measures included the development of a cloud-based census template, MyWard, andconducting roadshows for user training. Continuous Nursing Education was provided, and MyTaskforcewas established to conduct regular audits, ensuring compliance and monitoring discrepancies.EFFECT OF CHANGE:The data quality of hospital census increased from 14.3% to 100%, with ABNA improving to 0%. Over85% of staff rated MyWard 5 stars for user-friendliness, streamlined processes, reduced administrativeburden, and time-saving. Additionally, 91% of staff can now update the census in under 30 minutes, compared to only 35.5% before these measures were implemented.THE NEXT STEP:We plan to develop a mobile application and sharing practices with other manual hospitals.199 | Page
