These responses will usually be transformed into a
score and then be divided into two categories such
as ‘with disease’ or ‘without disease’. The
accuracy of this type of questionnaire will be
tested and considered valid if the performance of
the questionnaire in detecting a ‘positive’ or
‘negative’ event of interest is substantially high
although its accuracy of such a detection is often
not as high as the gold standard for such a
measurement.
Ideally, a screening questionnaire is
usually not designed to substitute the gold standard
