5.3 To make use of appropriate tool(s) to assist in
the biostatistical consultation process
A biostatistician can render a face-to-face consultation more effective if he/she chooses to
make use of several appropriate consulting tools and facilities within a conducive
environment during the consultation session. These include (i) a quiet and comfortable
room, (ii)a whiteboard and marker pens, (iii)PC or laptops, (iv)second screen
monitor or LCD projector, and (v)statistical software. As shown by the example in
Image 1, a research consultation session is conducted in a comfortable and quite room and
the second screen monitor is set up to enable the research client to conveniently have a
first-hand view of how the biostatistician is conducting the statistical analysis(es). In
addition, this photo was taken during the COVID-19 pandemic and thus the second screen
monitor had helped both the biostatistician and research client to maintain a safe social
distance.
