Page 7 - MALAYSIA HEALTH SECTOR RESPONSE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC: HOPE DESPITE ADVERSITY
P. 7
OPTIMISM DEFEATS
DIFFICULTIES
The emergence and rapid spread of the COVID-19 is
a significant threat to public health worldwide. With
this outbreak declared as a pandemic by the WHO,
it is not surprising that the COVID-19 pandemic
has significantly impacted patients, families,
healthcare systems, communities, and economies
globally. Public health and social measures are being
implemented across Malaysia to limit transmission
and reduce mortality and morbidity from COVID-19.
Over the past few decades, Malaysia has witnessed
rapid socio-economic development, which has led to
changes in the healthcare needs and expectations of
the public. MOH is the principal agency responsible
for the herculean task of developing, providing,
monitoring, and improving healthcare services. We
have been cognizant of these changes and continue
to endeavour to be responsive to the population’s needs. We can be proud of the fact
that we have a WHO-lauded health care system that prioritises health promotion and
primary prevention as well as secondary and tertiary care.
The Ministry shall be guided by its vision of health, ‘A NATION WORKING TOGETHER
FOR BETTER HEALTH’. MOH believes that any difficult task can be overcome together
with professionalism, teamwork, and support from all stakeholders. In the spirit of
“Teamwork,” which is a core value of the MOH, I am confident there is a lot more that
we can strive and achieve together to improve the health of Malaysians.
