THE FUTURE HYBRID IMAGING IN MALAYSIA – ESTABLISHING FUNCTIONAL IMAGING , AI
               AND BEYOND

               Associate Professor Dr. Subapriya Suppiah

               Universiti Putra Malaysia

Hybrid imaging is the utility of dual imaging modalities to achieve better anatomical and
functional information, which can help improve the detection of disease, treatment planning,
prognostication and follow-up of diseases. It is becoming ever pertinent to strategize and
optimize the usage of anatomical and functional imaging using modalities that were
previously independent of one another. Personalised medicine demands for the utility of the
best imaging modality to ensure that the patient is directed to the appropriate management
pathway for the best outcome, weighting the risk versus benefit of a particular mode of
investigation and treatment. Radiological and nuclear medicine imaging can be combined for
the purpose of theragnostics in order to deliver targeted molecular radiotherapy in this era
of personalized medicine. Furthermore, leveraging on computer-aided diagnosis by the
incorporation of artificial intelligence in medical imaging workflows, has enabled improved
diagnostics accuracies and potentially better healthcare management. These innovations are
helping to redefine the future of providing healthcare services in Malaysia.
