            SPECIALISED


            DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE (SDC)





            The Specialised Diagnostic Centre (SDC) in 2021 comprises five units. They are
            the Biochemistry, Molecular Diagnostic, Special Protein, Endocrine and Speci-
            men Management Units. SDC roles are:






               Tertiary referral  centre for  specialised  diagnostic services in  fields related
               to inborn errors of metabolism (IEM), rare genetic diseases and paediatric
               endocrinology for government and private sector hospitals in Malaysia

               The only centre which provides comprehensive IEM and rare genetic disease
               testing services in Malaysia with more than 200 tests, including screening and
       SPECIALISED DIAGNOSTIC   CENTRE (SDC)  Indonesia and Brunei
               confirmatory specialised tests. SDC also provides such diagnostic services for


               Continuous research and development for new laboratory
               methods based on clinical and medical needs to support health
               service delivery


               Strengthening the diagnostic capability within
               Malaysia using advanced technology




               Managing biological specimens and result dissemination
               to hospitals and clinics in Malaysia and other countries


               Providing training on specialised biochemistry and molecular
               genetics to local or international undergraduate and postgraduate
               students


               Provide consultation to scientists/clinical specialists on special protein
               analysis, biochemical genetic and endocrine clinical diagnostics and
               molecular diagnostics for rare genetic disorders


               Local and international collaborations on various disciplines of
               pathology and clinical genetics for research in IEM, rare genetic
               diseases and paediatric endocrinology
