INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH
Specialised Diagnostic Centre (SDC)
The Specialised Diagnostic Centre (SDC) contributes to national capacity building
by conducting translational research and delivering state-of-the-art diagnostic
technologies towards better health care. SDC combines biochemical and molecular
genetics as well as advanced specific protein analyses in utilising new technologies
mainly for the clinical management of genetic diseases, including inborn errors
of metabolism (IEM), rare inherited genetic diseases and also non-communicable
diseases in clinical endocrinology. SDC is made up of four units which are Biochemistry,
Molecular Diagnostic, Special Protein and Endocrine Units.
Conduct translational
research in IEM, rare
inherited genetic diseases
and clinical endocrinology by
having local and international
collaborations on various
clinical disciplines and

Perform research Deliver training
and development on laboratory methods
(R&D) for new laboratory in specialised biochemistry
methods based on the and molecular genetics to
