Our study aims to achieve 0%of fake braces wearer cases.KEY MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT:The key indicator for improvement was measured using a percentage of secondary school studentswearing fake braces. The standard is 0% based on research by Fauziah et. al., 2022.PROCESS OF GATHERING INFORMATION:A quality improvement study was conducted from March 2023 to January 2024 involving verificationstudy, implementation of remedial measures and re-evaluation post-intervention. A total of seven studentswere identified as wearing fake braces during the pre-remedial phase. Study instruments include aself-administered questionnaire to students and dental officers, a dental observation form, and aninterview session.ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:Pre-intervention, about 8.86% of students were wearing fake braces. Contributing factors included werelower prices of fake braces (47%) and to be aesthetically pleasant (21%). Social media (47%) is the mainmedium of delivery for fake braces. Most students are unaware of legal action that can be taken againstillegal practitioners (57%) and ways to report fake braces (63%).STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE:Infographic materials on fake braces were posted via social media to increase students' and parentalawareness. QR codes for fake braces reporting have been advertised in schools and case reported wasinvestigated by enforcement law officers. Awareness by the dental team was improved by involving theschool community and home visits. Continuous dental education and a flowchart of fake bracesmanagement were arranged for Bentong dental officers.EFFECT OF CHANGE:The percentage of fake braces wearers among secondary school students in Bentong was reduced from8.86% to 0%. All the contributing factors had shown improvement with the remedial measures taken.THE NEXT STEP:Continuous effort on intervention and implementation of QR codes in improving the reporting of fakebraces wearer cases direct to the Pahang enforcement team.71 | Page
