The government also launched a digital platform, KitaJaga, that enabled the public to donate
essential supplies, such as masks and protective gear, directly to hospitals to support the efforts of
the front-line healthcare workers. The platform also provided updates on the current supply levels
and the needs of the hospitals, allowing the public to make informed donations.
The Government also prioritised open data initiatives. The Ministry of Health established a central
database, KKMNOW (https://data.moh.gov.my/COVID), formerly COVIDNOW (https://COVIDnow.
moh.gov.my/), that enabled healthcare workers and the public to access near real-time information
on COVID-19 cases and hospital capacity. This information was crucial in planning and responding to
the pandemic, allowing the government to allocate resources effectively (Figure 7.2).

Several other digital health initiatives were implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to
control its spread and improve healthcare services. Some of these initiatives include: Chapter 7
i. Consultation platform: An online platform that allows patients to connect with healthcare
professionals for remote medical consultations;
ii. Telehealth services: The Malaysian government encouraged the use of telehealth services to
reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in healthcare facilities;
iii. e-Screening tool: A digital tool that helps to screen individuals for COVID-19 symptoms and
provides advice on the next steps, including where to seek medical attention if necessary;
iv. COVID-19 tracing application: The Malaysian government launched a mobile application to
track the spread of COVID-19 and assist in contact tracing efforts. (MyTrace); and
v. Prescription system: A digital system that allows doctors to issue prescriptions electronically,
reducing the need for physical contact.
7.2 MySejahtera
The MySejahtera mobile application was introduced on 20 April 2020 to assist the government in
curbing the transmission of COVID-19. MySejahtera became the digital “One Stop” with functions in
public health surveillance, individual risk assessment, and vaccine management [2]. These functions
include:
i. Contact Tracing: MySejahtera allows for efficient and effective contact tracing by providing a
digital record of users’ check-ins at premises that use QR code scanning. This enables health
authorities to quickly identify and isolate individuals who may have encountered a COVID-
19-positive case;
ii. Health Monitoring: The application also allows users to record their daily health status,
including any symptoms they may be experiencing. This helps health authorities to monitor
and respond to potential outbreaks in real time;
iii. COVID-19 Vaccination: MySejahtera facilitates COVID-19 vaccination registration and
appointment scheduling in Malaysia. Users can register themselves and their family members,
as well as schedule vaccination appointments through the application;
iv. Real-time Alerts: MySejahtera provides real-time alerts on COVID-19 outbreaks and updates
from the Ministry of Health, enabling users to stay informed and take necessary precautions
to protect themselves and their communities; and
