Malaysian Stem Cell Registry (MSCR)
Malaysian Stem Cell Registry (MSCR) is a registry of unrelated donors for patients
who need a hematopoietic stem cell transplant. The registry was founded 22
years ago as a collaboration project between the Ministry of Health (MOH)
Malaysia, through IMR, and the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA). It
serves as the sole directory for all registered stem cell donors in Malaysia. The
MSCR aims to facilitate the search for compatible stem cell donors for patients
with haematological disorders. The objectives of the registry are to identify,
collect data and perform searches for suitable potential donors for patients with
blood disorders in Malaysia.
In 2022, 36 onsite campaigns were conducted in many states in Malaysia. MSCR
also received 176 compatible donor search requests and 2,026 people agreed to
register as a donor. To date, there are 36,405 registered stem cell donors. A total
of 21 successful compatible blood stem cell transplantations have been carried
out, mostly among the leukaemia patients.
