Allergy & Immunology Research
Centre (AIRC)
The Allergy and Immunology Research Centre (AIRC) carries out fundamental
and applied research in immunology including vaccine development. The centre
consists of the Allergy Unit, Autoimmune Unit, Immunogenetic Unit, Primary
Immunodeficiency (PID) Unit and Transplantation Immunology Unit. Each unit
conducts various research activities and provides specialised diagnostic services
pertinent to immunology.
The centre’s main objectives are:
To carry out collaborative
fundamental and applied research
Transplant testing services for bone marrow and
solid organ transplants to determine compatibility
which includes donor testing, donor registration
and donor follow-up for Malaysian Stem Cell
Registry to aid patients requiring a matched,
unrelated donor transplant
Discovering and producing new local
allergens and designing recombinant
allergens that can be adopted
clinically for bedside diagnosis
Teaching students through courses,
formal lectures and through
attachments
Allergy & Immunology Research Centre (AIRC) To provide laboratory diagnostic tests for
immunology-related diseases, such as allergy,
autoimmune disease and primary immunodeficiency,
to government and private clinics/ hospitals for
screening, diagnosing and monitoring of treatment
and disease progression
