Malaysia has embarked on a battle
against this COVID-19 crisis since
early 2020. Since then, public health
systems have been challenged by
the rapidly evolving virus, including
the Omicron variant that had
substantial ability to evade the
immune system, causing reinfections
and breakthroughs.
Nevertheless, with multifaceted
public health responses employed by
the government, we were able to
manage the COVID-19 situation in
the country, allowing gradual
reopening of sectors. Thus, at the
Ministry, we were able to re-focus on
the Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat
(ANMS) to strengthen public health.
The unwavering dedication and
devotion of frontliners over the past
three years have allowed us to
progress to where we are today. I
hope that the momentum from multi
sectoral collaborative efforts during
the pandemic will extend into the
future, in our endeavour to improve
public health.

The country’s preparedness for the
COVID-19 pandemic was powered by
early planning and preparation of
hospital facilities and services. From
early 2022 onwards, our COVID-19
pandemic strategies have evolved
from being dependent on
government intervention to
community solidarity and individual
responsibilities.
The progression of the pandemic and
the successful strategies put in place
has allowed our healthcare system
to cope better. In moving forward, We make do with what we have. We
