As we conclude the third year of
battling COVID-19, Malaysia has made
progress into rebuilding the economy
and further prioritising health security
for future preparedness. While we
applaud the nation coming as one in
times of adversity, it is time to look
ahead and rebuild, stronger and
better.
This COVID-19 syndemic, a situation of
multiple epidemics interacting that
ultimately exacerbates our nation’s
burden of disease, has exacerbated
health inequalities, highlighting the
importance of multisectoral action in
maintaining health. In moving forward,
the impact of COVID-19, particularly
those impeding previous successes in
health, has to be addressed to ensure
population health. For this, our human
resource for health is a crucial enabler,
and a fundamental foundation
underpinning health care systems,
which we will continue to expand and
enhance, to fulfil the nation’s needs.
As we stride ahead, I believe that the
lessons that we have gathered since
the emergence of COVID-19 will
benefit in future advancements in
health, especially in ensuring
multisectoral action for shared
prosperity and wellbeing.
