Immunization against measles has become a feasible proposition with the development of live attenuated, killed, and further attenuated live vaccines in tissue cultures. The former two classes of vaccines are effective buat are associated with many side reactions. The latter is effective and safe. Immunization programmes undertaken by many countries have demonstrated the value of measles vaccines in protecting the individuals, controlling the disease and saving costs. Occurrence of outbreaks in immunized populations is mainly due to administrative, technical and attitudinal problems which can be solved. Adequate resources must be available to exploit the vaccine foe effective control of the disease. There is no biologic reason why measles cannot be eradicated with the use of vaccine with aids from their developed conterparts.
