Summary, etc. |
During the post decade a number of viruses infecting man and lower animals have been found to have herpes viruses isolated earlier. They have therefore been classified in a single family Herpesviruses. Most members of the family, have a special affinity for cells of ectodermal origin and tend to produce latent infections. While the mechanism of latency has not been established, it is note wothy that the herperviruses, like adenovirusess (which also initiate lantent infections), are DNA viruses and replicate in the cell nucleus. |
